Who we are:

The Environmental Health team ensures health premises (beauty salons, tattoo parlours, public swimming pools and spas and premises with high risk manufactured waster systems) and their operators are complying with the SA Public Health Act 2011 and associated codes of practice to maintain proper standards. This includes investigations regarding alleged breaches
The Role:
As an Environmental Health Officer, you will undertake professional responsibilities to ensure compliance with health and environmental standards under relevant legislation. You will engage with the community, provide expert advice, and lead initiatives to improve public and environmental health outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine inspections for public health and food safety compliance under relevant legislation.
- Respond promptly to community requests regarding public health, food safety, environmental protection, and nuisances.
- Develop and implement education programs to raise awareness and encourage compliance.
- Investigate and resolve complex public health issues, including preparation for court proceedings when necessary.
- Provide high-level advice and accurate information to both the public and internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Environmental Health Team to achieve organizational goals and deliver excellent customer service.
- Maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and utilize corporate systems effectively.
- Administer enforcement actions in line with legislation and Council’s Enforcement Policy.
- Promote and project the Council’s image as a professional and efficient organization.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of the Environmental Health Team.
To thrive in this role, you will possess:
- A Bachelor of Applied Science in Environmental Health, Graduate Diploma in Environmental Health Practice, or equivalent.
- Experience as an Authorized Officer under relevant legislation.
- In-depth knowledge of public and environmental health legislation and processes.
- Proven investigative skills, including evidence gathering, court brief preparation, and presenting evidence in court.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution abilities.
- Proficiency in technical interpretation of building plans and specifications.
- A current Class C driver’s license.
- A working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other relevant systems.
