Who we are:

The City of Salisbury is a local government entity and encompasses an area of 158km2. We are a customer focused organisation, providing essential services to residents and visitors, in a dynamic and flexible working environment.

 

Development Services is primarily responsible for delivering various statutory services related to development within the city. These services include issuing Section 7 Certificates during land sales, managing the Council's business-leased corporate directional signs program, offering building rules certification services to private clients, and coordinating donated assets to meet Council requirements from private developments.

 

The role:

As a Development Engineer, you’ll play a crucial part in shaping the future of our community by ensuring land development meets legislative standards and adheres to best engineering practices. You’ll work to promote high-quality, context-sensitive urban development that aligns with community needs, providing expert technical advice on matters like roads, stormwater drainage, and finished floor levels. Additionally, you’ll inspect development projects to verify compliance with Council requirements, all while supporting a strong culture of customer service and projecting a positive image of the Council as an efficient and effective organisation.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Assessment Manager, you will:

  • Exercise Council-delegated powers, duties, and functions in your role
  • Assist in processing, reviewing, and investigating engineering designs, calculations, and specifications related to development applications and subdivision projects
  • Provide guidance to developers, service authorities, and consultants, ensuring compliance with Council’s design and construction requirements
  • Collaborate with other Council divisions to align development proposals with Council’s broader strategies
  • Inspect development sites to verify compliance with approved plans and conditions across various development issues
  • Deliver high-quality customer service to internal teams and external stakeholders through in-person, telephone, and counter inquiries regarding development matters
  • Perform technical duties as needed to support the Development Services Division
  • Maintain records following Council’s record management practices, policies, and procedures

 

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering
  • Experience in the investigation, design, and construction of roads and drainage infrastructure, including reviewing site plans and civil specifications
  • A valid and unrestricted Class C driver’s license
  • Strong work ethic aligned with our Development Services Division values of enthusiasm, professionalism, customer service, team collaboration, and innovation
  • Exceptional communication skills that demonstrate patience, clarity, and empathy, both verbally and in writing
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks with proactive time management skills
  • High competency in Microsoft Office suite applications
